A symmetrical open plane curve formed by the intersection of a cone with a plane parallel to its side. The path of a projectile under the influence of gravity ideally follows a curve of this shape. A parabolas is basically a line that follows a certain direction until a point (vertex) after it hits that point the line reflects off it to create a perfect curve as seen in the diagram.
